The Alaska Incident, also known as the the Alaska Crisis and part of the Y2K Crisis, was a three month armed confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, when a Soviet intervention force occupied Alaskan territory after an insurrection by the Alaska National Guard. The crisis lasted from July 26th to September 2nd, 1999. The confrontation was the first time the Soviet Union and the United States had escalated to combat since the start of the Cold War.
