Today, in 2024, the SOSUS station is gone.
They left some stuff behind. Here's the last scrap of wall that the Navy forgot to pack up.
It was a really pretty sight. This was early January, 2024, just after New Year's day.
The area around Keflavik is simply a big barren lava field. Rocks and rocks and rocks.
Trees don't grow this far out. Makes it easy to spot the cables they left behind.
And just like that, there was nothing left. A rock monument stood nearby as a testament to the lava fields, but there wasn't one mention of the site itself. Judging by the cables and flattened ground, this place was legit. Life here must've been hard, but with a view like this, what's not to love?
