Site 04:

Near Platinum, Alaska

Once an abandoned US Army installation during World War Two and the early Cold War, this base was intended to facilitate observation and floatplane services as a patrol base, intending to prevent sabotage of the only source of strategic platinum in North America. Today, this base has been commandeered by the international Joint Task Force initiative on lease from the Alaskan Army National Guard.

This site was chosen due to its isolation and preexisting infrastructure. Due to the age, prefabricated structures were acquisitioned and make up the bulk of the site’s facilities. Port structures, to include a pier out to deeper water, are in the process of being expanded as of late 1991. Due to concerns over secrecy, poor funding and other procurement challenges, expansion has proven extremely slow.

As of late 1993, the base consists of 4 medium sized prefab structures to include a DFAC, an administrative building and a schoolhouse, with the admin building and schoolhouse being connected in an L shape. The fourth structure was constructed as a dormitory space for Shipsouls.

Currently, human personnel are housed in an aging 1950s era headquarters building. Services, such as heating, water and electricity are provided from exposed oil tanks and water towers. Communications are provided by an antenna mounted atop the HQ building. Due to overwhelming demand in the mid to late 1990s, funds were allocated to satellite internet access, as dial-up required telephone infrastructure.

Guests, to include Shipsouls and liaison officers, are to be housed in the HQ building or any available space. Supplies are routinely flown in from Anchorage by helicopter, as the closest airstrip is in the town of Platinum. The town has seen itself grow with the base as contractors settle in and military members sneak in their families. The town of ~100 people boasts a dilapidated general store and a rickety bar.
